Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:
Tuesday, May 31: At 7:45 am a deputy issued a citation for failure to maintain control to Karah Jean Brown, 18, of Jefferson after she lost control of her 2002 Honda Civic as she was driving southbound on Highway 4 near 185th St north of Jefferson. Her vehicle went off the roadway on the right shoulder, and then she overcorrected and crossed the centerline, entering the east ditch. Brown was not injured, but was evaluated at the scene by the deputy. Her vehicle sustained little damage.
Monday, May 30: Routine activity reported.
Sunday, May 29: At 2:19 am a deputy was dispatched to a reported single vehicle rollover accident that occurred on the Highway 144 diagonal just north of Rippey. The driver and owner of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup was not at the accident scene upon the deputy’s arrival. The Dallas and Greene County hospitals were advised of the accident and at that time had not given medical attention to anyone involved in an accident. The deputy later determined that the driver was Nicolas Lani Dean Nicolaisen, 24, of Bouton. He reported that he walked to his mother’s home in Rippey after the accident and received medical attention the next morning. Nicolaisen was issued citations for failure to maintain control and open container-driver 21 years or older. Damage was estimated to be $5,000 to the pickup. At 11:22 am a deputy was dispatched to the Landus Cooperative in Churdan for a reported strong odor of anhydrous. The deputy located the tank in question and advised an employee. The leak and odor was soon stopped.
Saturday, May 28: At 6:02 pm a deputy, the Jefferson fire department, Greene County Emergency Medical Services and Midland Power Cooperative were all dispatched to a single vehicle rollover accident that occurred on Highway 30 between O and P Avenues east of Jefferson. Dale Leroy Musser, 58, of Boone was westbound on Highway 30 when his 2015 GMC Acadia SLT-2 entered the ditch, rolled several times and struck a utility pole, shearing it off. Messer and two passengers in his vehicle were all transported to the Greene County Medical Center for further evaluation. The air bags deployed and all occupants were reported to be wearing their seat belts. Damage to the vehicle was estimated to be $10,000. At 7:55 pm a deputy was advised by Calhoun County officials of a single vehicle rollover accident that occurred on 100th St near B Ave just into Greene County in Cedar Township. A Calhoun County deputy assisted and was on scene before the Greene County deputy’s arrival. The driver of the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer, Lucas Michael Wolf, 22, of Glidden, was transported to the Lake City Hospital before the deputy’s arrival. Wolfe was later transported to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines by Life Flight for reported head injuries. Damage to the vehicle was reported to be $5,000.
Friday, May 27: At 12:08 am a deputy was asked to stand by and possibly assist a Jefferson Police Officer with a call in Jefferson. The deputy was not needed at that time. At 6:43 am the Greene County sheriff’s office, assisted by the JPD, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of E. Perry Street in Jefferson and subsequently arrested Tyson James Ruth, 35, of Jefferson and Joey Ann Godwin, 35, also of Jefferson for criminal trespass, possession of stolen property, theft-fifth and theft-second degree, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 12:40 pm a deputy, Churdan fire and rescue, the Jefferson fire department and Greene County EMS were all dispatched to 402 Perkins St in Churdan for a fire that had started around a window air conditioning unit in the home. The home had extensive fire and water damage. At 1:40 pm a deputy was advised of a burglary and theft of tools from a residence in the 400 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 2:38 pm a deputy was advised of a possible burglary and theft of property from a rural residence in the 2300 block of 260th St in Junction Township. At 8:49 pm a deputy was advised of an elderly male subject that had not returned to a rural residence in the 1000 block of H Ave. The elderly male was later located by a Webster County deputy after he was involved in an accident.

Wednesday, May 25: At 4:38 pm a deputy was asked by Union Pacific railroad dispatchers to check for a male subject that was trespassing on railroad property near the Jordan Ave crossing in Scranton Township. At 4:39 pm a deputy was dispatched to Churdan to investigate the report of two groups of juveniles fighting in the city park. Both groups were spoken to by the deputy and advised of possible charges if the conflict continues. At 7:41 pm three members of the Greene County sheriff’s office assisted the JPD with checking the identity of several individuals associated with a wanted vehicle that was reported to be pulling into the parking lot at the Wild Rose Casino.
Tuesday, May 24: At 1:16 pm a deputy and the chief deputy sheriff assisted JPD officers with a domestic assault call in the 800 block of W. Lincoln Way in Jefferson.

Sunday, May 22: At 7:29 am a deputy investigated criminal mischief to a vehicle in the 500 block of 14th St in Grand Junction. At 1:19 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 2400 block of P Ave in Franklin Township to investigate a burglary to a rural residence. Nothing appeared to have been taken. At 2:50 pm a deputy was advised by a Grand Junction resident of the theft of his wallet and his VISA card being used in several different locations. The deputy initiated an investigation and will view video from those locations where the card was used. At 10:52 pm a deputy assisted a JPD officer with an arrest in the 1000 block of N. Maple St in Jefferson.
Saturday, May 21: At 11 am a deputy spoke with a rural Greene County resident regarding her receiving several harassing letters in the mail. At 1:14 pm a deputy spoke with a Grand Junction resident about the violation of a civil order. At 2:03 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 100 block of Percival St in Rippey to investigate a trespassing concern. At 6:42 pm a deputy was dispatched to a single vehicle rollover accident on 255th St and P Ave in Grant Township. The driver and three other occupants had left the scene before the deputy’s arrival. The deputy determined the driver of the 2004 Jeep Liberty to be a juvenile male of Jefferson. He was issued a citation for failure to maintain control. None of the occupants were injured, but damage to the jeep was estimated to be $10,000.
Friday, May 20: At 10:05 am a deputy was dispatched to the 2300 block of W Ave in Washington Township to investigate illegal dumping of garbage and miscellaneous building materials into the ditch. At 11:36 pm a deputy was advised of a cow in the road on Eaton Avenue near 210th St in Kendrick Township.
Thursday, May 19: At 5:14 am a deputy was dispatched for a car-deer accident on Highway 30 between Orchard and Pioneer Avenues east of Jefferson. Brooke Michelle Cressler, 24, of Fonda struck a deer as it ran onto the roadway causing major damage to her 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Cressler was not injured in the accident. At 3:26 pm, a deputy assisted a JPD officer with traffic control at Madison and Elm Streets after a young female was struck by a vehicle at the intersection while she was attempting to cross the street on her bicycle. At 5:17 pm, a deputy assisted a JPD officer with a traffic stop on Madison St in Jefferson. The vehicle was involved in a sheriff’s office case where damage was done to a barrier pole at McMann Access earlier in the day. The driver was evaluated by field sobriety testing. At 8:16 pm, a deputy was dispatched to the 1800 block of Redwood Ave in Grant Township for a vehicle that was reported to be driving carelessly and leaving ruts in the gravel roadway. The vehicle was located by the deputy and the driver’s identity was determined.
Wednesday, May 18: At 12:51 pm, two deputies were advised by Union Pacific railroad dispatchers of a train that was stopped near the Parkland Avenue crossing and experiencing a malfunction with the train whistle. A UPRR repair crew was dispatched to the location. At 2:27 pm a deputy, Churdan fire and rescue, the Jefferson fire department and Greene County Emergency Medical Services personnel were dispatched for a rollover truck accident at the intersection of 180th St and County Road P-14 (I Ave) in Bristol Township. A 1999 Mack flatbed straight truck owned by Landus Cooperative and being driven by Timothy Dale Cafferty, 54, of Rockwell City was southbound on P-14 and attempting to turn onto 180th St when the truck rolled onto its side in the south ditch. The flatbed truck was hauling 2000 gallons of water for spraying purposes. Cafferty was transported to the Greene County Medical Center emergency room by Greene County EMS for further evaluation.
Tuesday, May 17: At 7:32 am a deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of Glenwood Ave in Bristol Township to investigate the theft of personal property from a farm field. At 12:46 pm a deputy was dispatched to Rippey for two Labrador Retrievers reported to be running at large. One of the dogs was captured and transported to the animal shelter in Jefferson.
Monday, May 16: At 2:53 pm, a deputy assisted a Carroll County Deputy with investigating a single vehicle accident that occurred on the Carroll-Greene County line near 230th St in Scranton Township. At 5:13 pm a deputy was advised of a harassment concern from a resident in the 300 block of 18th Street North in Grand Junction. At 9:18 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 2200 block of Highway 4 in Franklin Township for a car-deer accident. Mark Walter Nelson, 52, of Jefferson was northbound when a deer ran onto the roadway and struck his GMC Acadia. Nelson was not injured but his GMC sustained an estimated $3,500 in damage.
Sunday, May 15: At 1:05 am a deputy was advised of a minor car-deer accident that occurred on Highway 144 just north of 200th St in Junction Township. Only minimal damage was caused to the 2013 Ford panel van owned by United Leasing Inc. At 3:48 am a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of 230th St in Jackson Township for a vehicle in the ditch. The owner and subsequent driver of the vehicle was transported from the scene but later returned to speak with the deputy. Charges are pending further investigation. At 4:28 pm a deputy was dispatched to investigate a reported burglary in the 1600 block of T Ave in Junction Township. At 10:10 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction to investigate the reported theft of medications.
Saturday, May 14: At 11:15 am a deputy was dispatched to check the damage caused to a utility box along the roadway at the intersection of 9th and 2nd Streets in Grand Junction. The deputy determined that an unknown vehicle struck the utility box and left the scene. At 1:44 pm a deputy was dispatched to the Janco Motel at 902 Highway 30 East after the owner discovered someone had struck the sign and driven away. At 8:26 pm a deputy was advised of the theft of personal property in the 300 block of West Hager St in Grand Junction. At 9:56 pm a deputy assisted a Coon Rapids police officer with locating a stolen dog that was taken from a residence in Coon Rapids and later found by the Greene County deputy in Scranton. Charges are pending further investigation.
Friday, May 13: At 3:49 am, a deputy assisted the JPD and the Jefferson fire department with a structure fire at 300 South Wilson in Jefferson. At 11:13 am a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of 7th Street South in Grand Junction to investigate criminal mischief to a car window. At 11:20 pm a deputy was advised of a suspicious vehicle driving around Grand Junction. The deputy was provided with a license plate that did not correspond with the described truck.
Thursday, May 12: At 12:19 pm two deputies responded to the 1000 block of Main St in Scranton to investigate an assault. Charges are pending further investigation.
Wednesday, May 11: At 9:13 am, a deputy was out of position and unable to locate a reported careless and erratic driver on Highway 25 south of Scranton. At 10:30 am a deputy was advised of careless driving by two vehicles in Scranton. At 3:14 pm, a deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of Lincoln Street in Scranton to investigate a reported assault. At 5:12 pm a deputy was dispatched to Grand Junction to investigate a reported suspicious vehicle parked in the 200 block of Main Street East.
Tuesday, May 10: At 3:44 am, a deputy was dispatched to the Grand Junction laundromat to investigate criminal mischief to several coin machines on the washers and dryers. At 9:04 am, a deputy spoke with a resident in the 200 block of Falcon Ave in Highland Township about a possible burglary and theft of a missing handgun.
Monday, May 9: At 11:18 am a deputy spoke with a resident in the 1800 block of D Ave in Scranton Township about a harassment concern. At 1:39 pm a deputy was dispatched to Paton to investigate a reported identity theft involving an individual’s credit card being compromised. At 8:28 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 200 block of W Hager St in Grand Junction to investigate a report of attempted criminal mischief to several trucks.
Sunday, May 8: At 1:05 am a deputy was assisted by a Carroll County deputy with trying to locate an intoxicated male subject that was reported to be try to inflict injury upon himself after jumping from a vehicle at McMahon Access. The male was later reported to be back in Carroll with relatives. At 6:43 am a deputy was dispatched to the “S” curves on County Road E-53 (old Highway 30) east of Jefferson for an abandoned vehicle that was on its top with the lights still on. Jordan Marcus Lee Ward, 22, of Jefferson admitted that he was eastbound in the 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix when he lost control on the curve. The female passenger and Ward were not injured but the vehicle sustained an estimated $3,000 in damage. Ward was issued a citation for failure to maintain control. At 3:35 pm a deputy was advised of an erratic and careless driver eastbound from Grand Junction on Highway 30. Due to the deputy being in the western part of the county, Boone County was advised of the vehicle.
Saturday, May 9: At 6:27 am three members of the Greene County sheriff’s office, Grand Junction fire and rescue and Greene County Emergency Medical Services assisted the Iowa State Patrol with investigating a single vehicle accident that occurred just east of Grand Junction on Highway 30. The accident took the lives of the driver of the vehicle and his passenger, who were later identified as John Jacob Twombly, 36, of Des Moines and Alexander Joseph Sharer, 26, of Boone. The vehicle was eastbound on Highway 30, and had just crossed over the Union Pacific Railroad bridge, when the car veered to the left striking the cable guard rail. The Chevrolet Corvette then proceeded under the cables and down the bridge embankment, striking a tree. It is believed that the accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday and not noticed until the daylight. At 11:36 am a deputy was asked to check the Jefferson airport for a small experimental plane that was lost from radar in this area. The plane was later reported to be located at another airport by the FAA. At 12:35 pm a deputy was advised of a possible burglary and criminal mischief to a building site in the 100 block of J Ave in Highland Township. At 3:17 pm a deputy was dispatched to the Seven Hills Park to determine the driver of a vehicle reported to be driving recklessly and traveling off the driveway in the mud. The driver and the passengers agreed to fix the ruts left by the vehicle. At 3:28 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 900 block of J Ave in Bristol Township for a reported harassment concern and possibly other criminal charges. At 4:20 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of W Ave in Junction Township to investigate a reported suspicious vehicle driving slowly by farm residences. A vehicle description was determined but not located upon the deputy’s arrival. At 10:49 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction to investigate a reported assault. The assault is under investigation at this time. At 11:01 pm a deputy assisted Boone County deputies with trying to locate a pickup that fled from a deputy in Boone County.
Friday, May 6: At 9:02 am a deputy was advised, for informational purposes only, of criminal mischief and vandalism occurring to several farm implements in northern Guthrie County. At 3:14 pm two deputies assisted JPD officers with traffic control during an accident investigation and cleanup at the intersection of Highway 30 and Mulberry St. At 4:31 pm a deputy investigated a two vehicle accident that occurred on Central Ave in Jefferson because JPD officers were busy on other multiple calls. Tyler Christian Tiffany, 25, of Grand Junction was westbound on Central Ave driving a 2010 Chevrolet Impala. Makala Jo Semke, 35, of Jefferson was eastbound driving a 2009 Chevrolet Suburban. Semke turned left into a private driveway into the path of Tiffany’s vehicle. Semke was cited for failure to yield upon a left turn. Damage to her vehicle was estimated at $3,000. Damage to Tiffany’s vehicle was estimated at $5,000. At 6:36 pm a deputy transported a dog found running at large in Grand Junction to the animal shelter in Jefferson.
Thursday, May 5: At 12:33 pm a deputy was advised of criminal mischief to the restrooms at the city park in Churdan. At 6:17 pm a deputy was advised by a Jasper County deputy of finding the pickup that was stolen earlier in the week from the 2300 block of U Ave in Greene County. The pickup was reported to be found west of Baxter. The owner was advised that the pickup would be released to him. At 7:20 pm a deputy was dispatched to check a suspicious red van driving around Rippey. It was reported that the driver was going door to door with some type of bag. The deputy located the van and driver and determined his identity and reason for being in town. It was determined that he was going door to door selling vacuums.
Wednesday, May 4: At 10 am a deputy spoke with a Scranton resident about a harassment concern involving a child custody issue. At 11:31 am a deputy assisted a DOT motor vehicle enforcement officer with the search of a vehicle after the officer found an occupied car parked on 240th St near C Ave in Scranton Township. At 12:09 pm a deputy was asked by the Union Pacific railroad dispatchers to try and locate a vehicle that was illegally parked on the railroad right of way at the Jordan Ave crossing in Jackson Township. At 6:22 pm a deputy was asked to check an abandoned suspicious vehicle at a building site on S. Kendrick Ave in Scranton. At 7:58 pm a deputy investigated criminal mischief to several coin machines in the 500 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction. At 8 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of 180th St in Bristol Township to investigate the theft of personal property from the building site.
Tuesday, May 3: At 9 am the Greene County chief deputy and K-9 Leo, along with a Carroll County deputy sheriff and K-9 Ike assisted the Gowrie police chief with a search of the school parking lot in Gowrie. At 7:46 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of S. 13th St in Grand Junction to investigate criminal mischief to the tires on a bicycle.
Monday, May 2: At 9:48 am, a deputy was advised of a dog running at large in the 1200 block of 110th St in Highland Township. At 1:13 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of North 18th St in Grand Junction for a reported dog bite to an adult male. The dog was transported to the Jefferson Veterinary Clinic by the dog’s owner for the 10 day quarantine. At 3:10 pm a deputy assisted a JPD officer with a domestic altercation in the 1400 block of Southfield Drive in Jefferson. At 4:24 pm a deputy was dispatched to 12086 120th St in Dallas County to assist with the recovery of a pickup that was stolen from the Jefferson area over the weekend.
Sunday, May 1: At 9:55 am, a deputy was dispatched to the 2300 block of U Ave in Washington Township to investigate the theft of a 2010 Ford F-150 pickup. The theft is under investigation by the sheriff’s office at this time. At 11:38 pm, a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of East Hager Street in Grand Junction to investigate the reported theft of a vehicle. The vehicle was taken without the owner’s permission and the person responsible was located in Fort Dodge.
